The Countdown to 2016…

…is on!

I thought it correct to round off the year with Countdown as it’s basically been a part of every other post of my 2015 tenure here, some way or another. That, and the clock itself is surely the coolest way to countdown to midnight. Who needs Big Ben and millions of pounds worth of fireworks when you have that music?

This is just a quick render using the original (current set design) version of the Countdown graphics made by me, which I spoke about in exhaustive detail in an August post wherein I gave them an 80s redressing.

CLOCK2016-1_0498As you can see, I got overexcited and ended up building the entire set. This gave me the hope of flying cameras around it while the clock ticked, but nightmarish render times put me off doing that.

But this post isn’t about me, nor is it about Countdown. I’m here to say thank you to YOU for putting up with me for, goodness, five months now! You are all so kind and encouraging – it quickly became a lovely place to be and that’s definitely more down to you than me.

I wish a Happy New Year to all who jaywalk, be it regularly or just occasionally, long-standing or newcomer, loud or in silent. Have a great night whatever you’re getting up to, and I shall see you here, next year – you be sure of it!

To 2016! x

  4. Hehe!! Of course it would be Countdown!! Yay! And still have watched it properly but you have quite a list from me as well to watch so there’s something for us both to accomplish in 2016! Happy New Year, Jacob and thanks so much for all the laughs, friendship and fun!! ❤️😃

I don’t think there’s going to be time for me to watch Countdown or indeed do anything else this year, with all these films you’ve insisted I watch!

Same back to you, Charlie, of course. Here’s to another year of friendship and fun!

That looks almost like the 3D model that’s used in the current Countdown app made by Barnstorm Games!

Hello Jason – thanks! I’m well pleased with that as, from what I’ve seen, the modelling on the app looks brilliant.

Another fantastic piece of design work! By any chance, do you have any head-on shots of this studio design, Jacob?

Hey Jacob. I’ve been working on my own, dreadful version of this set based on the screenshot you sent. Again, done in Adobe Illustrator. Since you’re the expert, here it is if you’d like to cast your opinion! Hoping to give the current set a go next, but we’ll see.

Holy heck, that’s fantastic. 😮 I really like the desk, it looks so real. My own version is meant to be coming this afternoon as it happens. but it’s not quite so smooth as that!

Looks great! You’re improving so much with every attempt, nice to see 🙂

The clock texture is the top one here: https://imgur.com/a/p9ZsvcB

Incidentally, it’s the same for the present set (where it’s used elsewhere too, like the front of the desk and the side of the letters board).
