Cookie Monster

Truthfully, I could think of nothing and came to this muppet in my scramble for inspiration. He just about takes the biscuit with his outrageously furry (furry? fluffy?) appearance, so seemed the perfect candidate for a fun scribble. I hope I’ve that much fur when I’m pushing fifty.

I confess I’ve never really seen much of his work. My sister was – and still is – obsessed with Elmo, whom I believe shares the series with Cookie Monster (demonstrating my awesome Sesame Street knowledge, right there). I recall some of my earliest drawings were of Elmo, for her. I’ve fond memories of going into Woolworths (RIP) and setting off all the Tickle-Me Elmos so that the shelves vibrated dangerously, at which point we promptly made ourselves scarce, lest bedlam erupt.

So, in conclusion, quite why I got to drawing Cookie Monster and not Elmo, is really anybody’s guess – perhaps I ought to see to that soon. It’s been a long few days!

  1. Oh I love him…my daughter still has her push button Elmo. My fav was Oscar the grouch, and the count, ah ah ah ah! Plus I have some of the original toys from back in the 70’s. They don’t make kids TV like that nowadays…shame.

      Thanks, Rebecca! Oh my, how did I forget The Count? There’s a future piece, for certain. I used to like Big Bird when being forced to watch SS stuff.

      I agree re kids TV; though I suppose it’s still going to remain special to those it’s aimed at, like our own, the CGI overload doesn’t have quite the same charm (especially Thomas the Tank Engine, which is dreadful in CGI). Bring back Brum, Rosie and Jim and Rainbow! 😉

      • I think you just may have been the last era, of the good old child’s TV. But I do agree it is always going to be special, for memories, even for the children of now. My fav is monkey magic, badly dubbed….I still have the ring tone on my phone.

        Yes, that’s probably true – it was certainly starting to shift back in the 90s, away from the charming models and puppets and toward the digital. Another I used to like was a show called ZZZap, mainly because it had an art and magic segment! And of course, who can forget Art Attack!? Wizzadora too… oh, I’m just oozing nostalgia now!

  5. Me want Cookie Monster!!!! Yay!!! Hehe…this made me smile all over! Excellent rendering of this furry fellow. I actually remember him well since I was too old for Elmo, so I probably sent you vibes to sketch him instead. 😊 Sorry about that!

      Thanks, Charlie, for the comments and vibes! I’ve been struggling in terms of subjects recently so they were very welcome, Elmo or not. Actually I was sure you’d already doodlewashed Cookie Monster, but apparently not – I found Big Bird though! ❤

    I missed the sesame street train too but have done some freelance work for them. I think cookie monster has a lot of appeal and maybe should be disgruntled that Elmo is so popular! Plus didn’t they make him stop asking for cookies? You did him justice and captured his shaggy shaky silky hair. Me like him A LOT!
