Kenny Everett

Another attempt to give a well-meaning prod to my drawings, this time returning to hatching the first time in really quite a while. Well, I say hatching – it moved more into scribbling territory toward the end! Like before, I went in with just the standard Photoshop brush, though this time I applied a slight angle and also a jitter in size for each stroke, to give it a slightly bumpier, sketchier impression. Much fun was had, though admittedly not quite to the degree of my previous foray into stippling. I’m not sure Kenny was overly co-operative; his expression seemed to make things doubly difficult, especially those big blue eyes, which I feel as though I’ve spent all day fretting over (it really has been quite a while!). They look much better and less ‘axe murderer’ than they once did, but there’s still something about the face stopping it from being completely crazy-adorable Kenny to me, and I can’t quite put my finger on the guilty party.

Shamefully I only discovered Everett quite recently, randomly stumbling across some snippets of his madcap BBC series The Kenny Everett Television Show. I hadn’t laughed so much for a very long time. Widely hailed a genius of radio and making a seamless transition to television, I can certainly see where people are coming from with such high praise, equally clear is why he continues to be held in such adoration. A very funny and lovable character, much missed. I must find the time to track down more of his work.

Inept DIY man Reg Prescott’s hapless exploits might be a tad graphic, but, as Cupid Stunt would insist, it’s all done in the best possible taste.
