Christmas at Mill Cottage
It’s only a week until Father Christmas comes! Is there any better time to experiment?
In perhaps the height of my festivity so far this year, I got hold of a free snow plugin for Cinema 4D, MagicSnow. On being pleasantly surprised at its ease of configuration, I got bullish and went about subjecting dear Mill Cottage to a generous helping of white stuff.
It soon became clear that it was not designed for use on such impossibly complex/poorly-constructed models, and indeed so much snow had fallen that my computer froze for about fifteen minutes. Undeterred, I repeated the process of snowfall but with the various elements – floor, trees, house etc. – in separate files and then brought them together in the ensemble you see. Some parts are questionable, but in general it seems the plugin works really well and definitely warrants further experimentation. Hopefully, before next year!
In a fit of unforgivable laziness, I decided not to cast my own snowman but ship one in. The snowman model you see is available here.
How I love the snow – it’s been so long since we’ve had any. Could we have just a little bit this year, do you think? It’s not too much to ask, shirley?
Wish you a Merry Christmas xxx

Very glad to hear it, Phil – thanks! I’m struggling the same really, so I thought we could do with a little chilly blast – always does the trick!
If I don’t catch you before the event, I hope you have a lovely Christmas!

Thanks Jacob, and you mister, have a great Xmas and new year. It’s not my favourite time of year to be honest but that’s because I’m a grump 😆

The little house looks inviting. Noice woik. All the technical computery stuff you said went right over my head, but the image speaks for itself; it looks like a still from an animated christmas movie or sumth.
I’d probably be more of a christmassy person if i lived in a place where it snowed at that time of year. (Summer just isn’t christmassy! ). Although i’m just not a big christmas person tbh….it was great as a kid, but as a parent, it’s stressful as hell. Plus, i’m not christian, so i kinda resent feeling “forced into it” now days. Anyway, Bah Humbug! Sorry to be a grumpster- it’s not all bad. Wrapping prezzies is fun. And I’ll use any excuse to put more fairy lights in the garden.
I do wish you a merry chrissy and happy holidaisies if we don’t type at each other again before the day is upon us 🙂

Thanks! Haha, the technical stuff goes over my head too – I just drop it in to kid people that I know what I’m doing. 😉
I would still love Christmas if it heralded the likes of this, I really would. Snow brings out the over-excited and happy child in me like little else. The reality is that this month has been ridiculously mild, as it pretty much always is, now. The season of winter seems to fading each year – rarely do I wrap up or even bother with a coat. It makes me sad – not to mention really quite worried – because winter is my favourite season. Maybe I should just relocate to Norway or somewhere.
Yay for fairy lights! I hope you and your daughter can have a fun time! I'm certainly looking forward to my niece opening her presents, and doubtless giving them a brutally honest assessment. I guess that's what it's all about now. 🙂

Oh wow, that is a bit worrying about the winters…..climate chance, anyone? I do hope you get visited by the snow fairy ASAP! I can well imagine how snowy christmas scenes could bring on childlike wonder and delight. Even here in Aus, we’re raised with chrissy books and movies all depicting snowy scenes. There is definitely something magical about snow.
Yes- Norway! I’d love to go there. I’ve had friends from there, and from what they tell me, it just sounds divine.
haha, yep, you can always rely on kids for a brutally honest assessment of anything! Aww, i do hope your niece has nothing but lovely things to say about her pressies, then 🙂

Indeed. The seasons seem so indistinct now, it’s frightening. This doesn’t stop us waffling on about how freezing it is, though. People need to man up, get some hairs on their chest! 😛
Ha, I so wish I had the balls (and money) to just waltz off to Norway. It sounds mighty tempting.
I hope so too! Though, you know what kids are like – I shan’t be too offended if she’s indifferent. She visited the other day, and showed more interest in the vacuum cleaner than her favourite toys (and indeed, her uncle!)

Yep, it is kinda scary It’s the same here…..not a very distinct transition from one season to another anymore. I love Autumn best, but i really miss that lovely sudden chill to the air that you’d get early in the season. Now it’s more like “oh, there were 3 coolish days…that was Autumn”.
Haha, maybe it’s the lack of chest hair that’s making them cold? 😉
Well, you’re certainly closer to Norway than i am! You could make it happen! But yes, still expensy
Aww, aren’t kids funny. Well there you go- just get her a bunch of vacuum cleaner parts for christmas! Easy! 😀

They’re like that here, too, summer in particular – it whizzes up to 30 degrees for a weekend and everyone goes crazy… then moans about it being too hot 😛 There’s really no pleasing us.
Exactly! That is the solution. CHEST HAIR FOR ALL.
Haha, this is exactly what I said to her – that, and I know who to call round whenever I need some housework done!

It must just be an inbuilt human thing to moan about the weather, i suppose!
Haha, yeah, you gotta teach ’em young ;P Unfortunately, my kidlet is completely uninterested in anything to do with cleaning…she’s messy like me…damnit!
