Interceptor Returns

interceptor-3BWell, that’s not to get your hopes up – Interceptor isn’t returning. But I’ve been indulging in the show again lately, so the titular villain is back after a double appearance way back in this blog’s early days. I can assure you, he’s still going to track you down by helicopter, he remains very mean and nasty, and his infrared projector continues to work rather like a television remote controller.

I tried to fill this with eighties airbrush zing, opting for standard Photoshop soft brushes, radiance, and a heap of saturation. I actually veered toward this midway through Kate Bush, and since sought out a tutorial on the subject. It’s still not quite there, though; certainly it would have benefited from a stronger sketch (and cut), but I appreciate that it at least looks a little different. Different is good, and it was fun, so it seems worth another bash at a later date. Perhaps the same can be said for Interceptor one day, TV people?

  1. I’d never heard of ‘The Interceptor’ before! Is that bad? Hang on- i’m checking out your previous Interceptor post, and reading that it didn’t go for long, and assuming it was ptobably only shown in the UK, i guess it’s not that weird that i hadn’t heard of it.
Omg, what is with the birdy screeches?! Hilarious! He’s like a crazed seagull! ( he is kinda hot, though, somehow. Excellent accent!!) What an entertaining show. It almost seems like something Shaun Micallef would make for a laugh. It’s brilliant!

Great piccy, anyway. It does have an 80’s vibe, for sure! Thanks for introducing me to the world of The Interceptor!

Thanks so much! Ah, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. As for the screeches, I have absolutely no idea, but they are gold! And the noise his laser gun makes, too. Such a deliciously hammy character. We used to go around ‘playing’ Interceptor and making those noises (in public) when we were little. 😛 And nowadays, I’d agree; you could do a lot worse than have him chasing you around 😉

A pleasure! They’re all on YouTube if you ever fancy seeing some more 😛 I think people might have looked down on it for being a bit silly, but that’s why I find Interceptor absolutely hilarious – I must have seen every episode a million times and still it cheers me up no end. I wish it had kept going, ’cause I’d have loved to go on it and make a royal prat of myself!

      • He’s SO hammy. He’s the uberham! The chats with the helicopter pilot were funny too.
Haha, that’d be a great game to play!
Yep, totally. He can intercept me anytime!
Oh it would’ve been super fun to go on. I think i’d have to have a serious fitness routine happening first, though- there was a lot of running involved!

Oh yeah, those exchanges are brilliant. That’s one thing I think is a shame, as that banter would have only grown in a second series. “Take me down low, Mikey.” Oo er! 😉

“He can intercept me anytime!” Genuine LOL. I’ll have to get a T-shirt printed!

Yeah, that’s true. I struggle running a bath these days! I used to do a little bit of running, though – it was the only sporty/fitness thing I could do – and actually had the theme tune in my earphones. Basically, I imagined I was on the show. I always felt a tad insecure about running in public, but having that was really energising!

      • Definitely; it would’ve been a hilarious series to keep going. It’s so silly! (in the best way!)
        Haha, do it!
I admire the dedication! I was always too self conscious for the running-in-public thang. I felt more comfortable on a treadmill…..but you’re right, it is an energising thing to do, and being fit feels good. I must get back on the wagon with that one…!

Oh, a treadmill is definitely sounding preferable these days, not least because it’s been so long. Just pipe in some calm ambience with those crazy bird cries spliced in at random points, and you’ll be set! 😉

      • Hahahaha! Brilliant. Now you just have to get it printed onto a shirt! 😉

I still can’t stop laughing at this, by the way. I don’t know what has happened. It would be quite funny though 😛

      • You really should get some of that stuff that you can print out on yr home printer and it turns yr image into an iron on transfer. Then you can wear that T-shirt every time you want to feel cheery!

Haha, I’m sorely tempted. It’s a line that’s still making me laugh. 😛 I was thinking of uploading it to Zazzle or something and letting people have it!

      Hi, Sean!

So glad you like my new piece – you came out a little orange, perhaps, but it was great fun and much was learnt. It’s always a thrill to be able to share Interceptor with people who, criminally, might not have seen it – especially when they enjoy it! 😉

Thanks for making my day again! Great news about the new series, I’ll definitely have a look for it. All the best and, once again, thanks for the entertainment!
